It’s a New Era with Aston Martin Returning to F1 Racing
You’re used to the Aston Martin for sale in the showroom, and now the Aston Martin name is headed back to Grand Prix racing. The Aston Martin Cognizant Formula OneTeam makes its racing debut in Bahrain, on March 28th, when we take to the course for top-flight single-seater competition.
We have known incredible success in sportscar racing over the years, with multiple class victories at the 24 Hours of Le Mans, and now our time has come to bring our engineering excellence to the most famous of all motorsport venues: Formula One.
The AMR21 sports the striking Aston Martin Racing Green in homage to Aston Martin’s traditional racing colors and incredible sports car legacy. A legacy you can capture up-close at the Aston Martin dealership.
The colors were adopted from the pink Racing Point through sponsor, BWT, in combination with the traditional British racing green that has been teased for years.
Four-time world champion Sebastian Vettel made the move from Ferrari to team Aston Martin over the winter and made his first public appearance with new teammate Lance Stroll. Both drivers take to the track for the first time together in the new Aston Martin F1 car during a Silverstone filming day.
A Formula One race car is on the cutting-edge of technology with a remarkably complicated puzzle of lightweight components and the latest in precision engineering to create a vehicle that is much more than the average Aston Martin for sale. The unyielding drive toward excellence produces unrivaled development of components and technology that will power the Aston Martin team well into the future of road cars.
The ruleset is almost entirely stable in the 2021 racing season, one alternation poses a unique challenge for this year’s Formula One racing teams, Aston Martin included. The 2021 rules strip the rear bodywork of several complex winglets that are used to help balance the vehicle at high speeds. That leaves the challenge of regaining that aerodynamic flow in other parts of the AMR21.
The AMR21 is equipped with the Mercedes-AMG F1 M12 E Performance engine, a 1.6-liter V6 turbo-hybrid power unit. This is a product of Formula One’s stable engine regulations that have, over the years, produced the most efficient Formula One engines ever built.
Formula One offers the perfect opportunity to develop and test new cutting-edge road car solutions that would later be found at your local Aston Martin dealership, including hybrid powertrains and electrical energy storage systems.
In 2021, Formula One has allowed the use of environmentally-friendly natural fibers, like hemp and flax. These natural products can be molded and bonded in the same fashion as carbon fiber. It’s a fascinating look ahead at the potential direction of material manufacturing in the automotive industry and certainly in racing.
In launching the new AMR21 for Formula One Racing, we are celebrating a new beginning for Aston Martin.
